North Aurora, Illinois, in Kane county, is 3 miles NW of Aurora, Illinois and 35 miles W of Chicago, Illinois. The village is part of the Chicago metropolitan statistical area. About 10,585 people live in North Aurora.

North Aurora was initially known as "Schneider's Mill" or "Schneider's Crossing." The foundation of the village was laid in 1834 by John Peter Schneider, a German immigrant who also established a mill and dam on the Fox River. Schneider Elementary School in North Aurora is named after him.
